Pathways to Development is a new initiative to EWB this year. It’s a development series made up of two workshops designed to educate, as well as a place for people to discuss factors of development and aid. These workshops were created by Hana Cadzow who has just completed a PhD at Otago University in Development Studies.
For the first workshop, Gina Yukich who has been managing EWB's Wawan Project in Vanuatu for the past few years will talk about her experience in managing a development project.
Development for 3rd world countries is a very complex issue and not one blanket solution. As such, the first workshop after Gina's talk covers two topics:
1. What does poverty look like?
2. How do we measure development?
We will investigate how much people know about poverty as well as how it has changed over the past 10 years around the world and in NZ. We will look at how we measure development, focusing on the various indexes we use and comparing the suitability of them for different countries.
The workshop is free for members of EWBNZ and $15 per workshop for non-members.
