EWBNZ Open Design Challenge

The EWB open design challenge is open to all years, disciplines and universities. The design challenge topics are listed below:

  • Design an improved cooking stove
  • Design a mechanism to improve survival rates of windmills in cyclones
  • Desalination plant design and infrastructure expansion
  • Design a hybrid solar generation system

Your team of up to six people will then compete against other teams to come up with the optimal solution to one of the challenge topics.

The top three teams of the design challenge will win part of $2000 (First $1200, Second $500, Third $300) worth of prize money.

Key areas to consider:

  • Solution to the challenge
  • Innovation
  • Appropriateness of solution
  • Sustainability concepts applied
  • Design process and alternatives

Key Dates:

  • May 2008 - Design Challenge Commences
  • 30th June 2008 - Registration Closes
  • 13th September 2008 - Reports Due via Submission Online
  • 18th October 2008 - Results Released
