The Odyssey Design Challenge 2017 has come to an end! This year, EWB partnered with Christchurch’s Gap Filler, a creative urban regeneration initiative that facilitates a wide range of temporary projects, events, installations, and amenities in the city.
The 6-week challenge saw students designing a concept for a community space that truly reflected the spirit of youth. Throughout the challenge, students were encouraged to use the ‘Human Centred Design (HCD)’ approach, a problem-solving framework which incorporated a human perspective in each step of the design process.
Thank you to everyone who got involved, including all our mentors and the judges Dane Hart (EWB), Heide Friedrich (University of Auckland), and Rachael Welfare (Gap Filler)!
We would like to especially congratulate the following teams for their success:

Sonia Wang, Emily Zou, Dasha Shieff and Cathy Xiong (Auckland)
