Maintenance Supervisor - Volunteering Opportunity at the School of St Jude in Tanzania
Note: This is not an EWB position but may be of interest to our members.
The School of St Jude Tanzania is located at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro and just twenty minutes from Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania. As a non denominational sponsorship-supported school for the poorest of the poor, the school has grown rapidly in just eight years such that today it educates 1,300 children and is spread across four campuses. We are looking for a Maintenance Supervisor -ideally an enthusiastic and good team player to help oversee and work with the school team of electricians, plumbers, carpenters and outside building contractors.
Experience needed:
- Be able to advise and supervise builders
- Be able to do thorough inspections of all site maintenance jobs finished
- Be able to help work with administration over costs of all maintenance issues
- Be able to work with outside building contractors on special projects
- Be able to fix plumbing and other emergencies as they arise, especially out of school hours. Living and working on campus presents its own challenges and rewards. Consultation and communication between campuses is always a priority but there are times when you will have to make a decision quickly and expediently, sometimes at 2am in the morning.
If you think you have the skills and experience and can cope with the anomalies of living and working in a distant, developing country with an eclectic bunch of passionate people striving to build the best school in Tanzania, drop us a line at schoolofstjude@habari.co.tz .
