Auckland’s Aotea Square’s 2013 Christmas Celebrations promoted holiday cheer and environmental awareness. A 7m tall Christmas tree, lit up beautifully at night, was adorned by 12 smaller Christmas trees.
EWBNZ helped to secure the support of SKM who designed the main tree’s structure and Brian Perry Civil who managed the construction. EWB volunteers also pitched in to attach the 5,000 plastic bottles to the trees.
The forest challenged visitors to Aotea Square in Auckland’s CBD to consider how their purchasing and recycling habits affect the environment, and support Reclaim’s work to move the perception of waste as rubbish to a valuable resource that can be re-used. EWBNZ assisted Reclaim Recycling and Architecture for Humanity in construction of the Reclaimed Christmas Forest.
