SAMAPETA Sanitation Enterprise

Meet Jimy and William - Construction Team Members of the SAMAPETA Sanitation Enterprise- working through the design and costings of several toilet construction projects.

SAMAPETA is a community based enterprise that aims to improve the sanitation outcomes within their own communities. The toilets are sold at affordable prices, rather than gifted, which means that the Sanitation Enterprise will become a sustainable business. At the same time as improving the sanitation in the community, the Sanitation Enterprise provides employment opportunities to people who want to make a difference in their communities.

Matt, an EWB volunteer working with Live and Learn, has been working alongside Jimy and William to equip them with the skills they need for their Sanitation Enterprise to operate without external support. This includes design, construction, costing and management of the whole construction process.

“For the latest job, we have completed the site assessment, engaged with the customer and now must sit down and come up with a material list and costing to quote the project. It is not an easy process but the construction team are picking it up. In this instance Jimy and William had completed most of the design and material list themselves, but asked me to look it over for them”.
