Passing of Andrew Duxfield
Submitted by ashish.naicker on Tue, 01/17/2012 - 21:27EWBNZ is sad to learn of the recent passing of Andrew Duxfield, a close associate of EWBNZ. Andrew demonstrated a profound commitment to others, and was particularly passionate about finding ways to raise the living standards of the people of the Pacific. He passed away on the 15th of January 2012, from a sudden illness, while in Fiji with his wife.
Andrew contacted EWBNZ in late 2010, while working on a water supply system for a small village in Fiji, one of many initiatives he has undertaken through his church since 2004. EWBNZ had the pleasure of providing Andrew and the Anglican Missions Board (AMB) with technical support for his project. Andrew was visiting this village when he passed away.

Odyssey is an annual design competition open to all year levels and disciplines of engineering in participating universities around New Zealand. The competition requires participants to submit a solution to a real problem faced by a community in need, who do not have the resources to solve it themselves. Contestants are provided with a design brief along with sufficient material to produce a quality design, which could be implemented as a practical solution.
This year's challenge is centred on the application of engineering knowledge and skills to benefit a local school: Carlson School of Cerebral Palsy, a place of education for children with extreme disabilities.
